Daisy, the New Yorker, Jan 12, 2004

Chang-Rae Lee was born in Seoul, Korea, and emigrated to the United States when he was two. Lee is the author of the novel Native Speaker (Riverhead Books, 1995), which received the PEN/Hemingway Award, the American Book Award, the Barnes and Noble Discover Award, the QPB New Voices Award, and the Oregon Book Award. It was also a finalist for the PEN West Fiction Prize and was an ALA Notable Book of the Year. His second novel, A Gesture Life, was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, Talk magazine's Best Book of 1999, a finalist for the New Yorker Book Award, a Publisher's Weekly Best Book of the Year, and an ALA Notable Book of the Year.
